“I design joy.”-Matthew A. Wilson
As a medical clown, TED Resident Matthew A. Wilson takes the old adage that laughter is the best medicine very seriously. In this heartwarming talk, he shares glimpses of how clowning around can help patients (and medical staff) navigate stressful situations -- with no side effects.
The TED Organization awarded Mr. Wilson a highly competitive residency at their headquarters in New York City, which culminated in giving his talk on the TED stage.
I design joy.
I’m a tactical arts consultant developing remote engagement and educational resources to make work better.
As a supervising 'clown doctor' with the first professional medical clown program in the United States, I brought joy and delight to critical care environments at top research hospitals in the country. I’m also a professional sword swallower.
After completing my graduate degree in Performance Studies from NYU I formed a tactical arts consultancy, implementing researched-based strategies from the arts to improve staff and patient experiences in a variety of care-settings.
I teach career communication and personal branding to the next generation of business leaders at the Fordham Gabelli School of Business in New York City.
Fun Fact: I toured the globe performing with the Grammy Award-winning Pop Icon Britney Spears. Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning theatre maker James Lapine, with whom Matthew worked on the Broadway Musical The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, called him “sui generis,” or ‘one of a kind.’
Matthew offers workshops and consultation services for medical practices and providers adapting to telemedicine.
Offerings include:
Improve your Remote Work Life: Self-Care for Distributed Work Teams
Making Time for Anything or How I Learned to Swallow a Sword in 10 Minutes a Day
